Neuroinflammation is a physiological process that promotes healing and the functional stability of the body. It involves the immune and nervous systems and is just one of the protective and repair strategies nature deploys to cope with a threat or tissue damage. Its complex systems have been the subject of much research in the field of biology.
This ‘counter-offensive’ can spin out of control and in turn, cause damage. Evidence from pre-clinical and clinical studies increasingly identifies neuroinflammation as a common factor in various disorders.
Our challenge is to modulate non-neuronal immune cells – mast cells, microglia and astrocytes – which affect nervous reactivity. With this approach, we aim to improve health in people with various medical conditions, whilst ensuring safety and targeted effectiveness.
