Prefer shoes made in leather than synthetic fibers, which do not allow the feet to breath.

Carefully check inside your shoes before wearing them to verify if there are any foreign bodies.
Changing the shoes during the day reduces the risk of lesions.
Avoid using stiff orthotics inside your shoes, because they can lead to dangerous pressure on the foot sole.
Wear new shoes not more than one hour a day, inspecting frequently feet conditions.

Prefer socks made with natural and absorbing fibers (e.g. wool, cotton).
Avoid wearing socks with elastic border and stocking garters. Avoid wearing socks with relief seams.
Wash and change socks every day.

During periodical assessments, refer to the podiatry specialist any observed event.
Upon purchasing of footwear, it is advisable to inform the shop assistants about the diabetic condition.
